Case Study Project 2: JMT Design Studio Website Poster
In each case study, include:
Problem / Goal
The goal of this project was to create a promotional poster for a web design studio that showcases custom website design in a creative and visually engaging way. The challenge was to design something that immediately captures attention while also demonstrating what a modern website layout could look like on a mobile device.
The poster needed to feel stylish, trendy, and visually memorable while promoting website services for small businesses and personal brands. The overall objective was to encourage viewers to start their own website through an eye-catching advertisement.
Research
I explored modern website advertisements, café branding, and creative promotional posters to understand what makes designs visually appealing and attention-grabbing. Many successful advertisements use:
- Large typography to create strong visual impact
- Warm, inviting color palettes
- Mobile-first layouts to reflect modern website usage
- Decorative imagery to create personality and brand identity
From this research, I decided to combine food-inspired visuals with a website mockup to create a fun and memorable concept. The warm browns, reds, and cream tones were chosen to create a cozy café aesthetic while still feeling modern and bold.
Wireframes
Before creating the final design, I planned the layout by organizing the main visual elements into sections:
- Large title/header to immediately grab attention
- Central smartphone mockup to showcase the sample website
- Decorative food imagery surrounding the layout
- Call-to-action section at the bottom for promotion
- Supporting text to explain the service
This structure helped create a clear visual hierarchy and guided the viewer’s attention from the title, to the website example, and finally to the promotional message.
Final Design
The final design uses oversized typography, warm breakfast-inspired colors, and layered illustrations to create a playful and visually engaging advertisement.
Key design decisions:
- Typography: Large serif fonts were used to create a bold and elegant appearance while making the title easy to notice
- Layout: The centered phone mockup creates a strong focal point and helps organize the composition
- Imagery: Pancakes, strawberries, blueberries, and syrup visuals reinforce the café website concept and add personality
- Color Palette: Warm browns, reds, yellows, and cream tones create a cozy and inviting aesthetic
- Call-to-Action: Bold buttons and promotional text encourage viewers to explore the website services
The overall design supports a fun, creative, and modern user experience while promoting custom website design. Supports a relaxing and informative user experience.
Usability Testing
I gathered feedback from peers and reviewed how viewers interacted with the poster layout.
Key insights:
- Some areas originally felt crowded and needed better spacing
- The hierarchy between the title and phone mockup needed improvement
- Decorative elements sometimes distracted from the main content
- The call-to-action needed to stand out more clearly
Based on this feedback, I adjusted spacing, enlarged important text, and improved alignment to create a cleaner and more balanced composition.
Results / Improvements
The final design successfully promotes website design services in a visually creative and memorable way. The combination of bold typography, food-inspired imagery, and the smartphone website mockup helps the poster stand out while clearly communicating its purpose.
Viewers can quickly understand that the design is advertising custom website services while also seeing an example layout.
